Is the ABC guilty of failing the Australian people by not applying a balanced view on Gaza. The recent interview of the self-proclaimed Zionist musician is evidence of this.
Absolutely spot on. An unqualified person speaking on this matter on national radio. How dare Conway criticise the left for calling this genocide and moreover attributing the naming of Israel as an Apartheid state as something other than fact.
Zionists have so much power and influence over governments all over the world.
And in Australia, where the Indigenous people can’t even get a Voice to Parliament, Zionists have not only a voice but dictate the terms of our rights socially in what we can say at work and in public and determine our foreign policy when their interests are at hand.
The MSM always seems to think the ‘average punter’ wants to listen to completely unqualified people speak about a subject that others like say Norman Finkelstein or Scott Burchill, distinguished academics, have spent their careers researching.
It speaks to the dumbing down of debate that opinions devoid of actual facts are broadcast at the taxpayer’s expense on public radio. Worse yet is the lack of pushback to the dehumanisation of Palestinians. Absolute shame.
Thanks John, its such an obvious shift to impose these methods on a well informed Australian public. The waste of space at the ABC is a go to way of cheapening the debate in places nuance and consideration should apply.
ABC has definitely lost its way since Ita was put in by Morrison and has gone downhill with each Murdoch hack shunted in while good journalists have been booted out.
Anyone with half an ounce of working brain can see this is genocide by the occupying state, not only in Gaza either. So defending itself is a huge lie, it's Gaza and the Palestinians who need defending from Israelis and their far-too-right government.
I'm thinking more about this. The Palestinian solidarity movement is a vision, an idea, even a hope, that the left has been missing in this neoliberal era. It's exciting and powerful, with the promise of change, something like the Black Lives Matter vision. And the power elite is shit scared. The ABC is showing its pathetic adherence to this dominant power structure. I know that's not new, but it is now so obvious.
Exactly. The ABC has failed; it's been a long, slow process, now complete.
I agree with the other comments here on the absurdity of getting opinions from people who are totally unqualified to comment.
At least if it's going to professional artists' opinions, why not go to Harry Greenwood, the actor who stood in solidarity with Palestinians at the STC performance of The Seagull or Mike Parr, the performance artist. Those who have been condemned by the power elites in this country.
I absolutely agree with your take on the ABC’s refusal to take a principled stand and demonstrate journalistic ethics in its reporting on the horrible mess in Gaza. It certainly looks a lot like the systemic and indiscriminate killing of civilians to me.
I also think that Hamas are murderous arseholes. This is not my attempt at balance, it’s my view of a situation which started with brutal murder and has got catastrophicly worse since. Neither “side” has behaved with decency, compassion and humanity that I can see. Yes, I’m aware that the Palestinian people have been treated appallingly, by successive Israeli governments, for decades.
However: I don’t think you needed to point out that Conway, her career reflecting the arc 99% of pop culture musicians, has had her time as a headliner and is now making music at a much more modest level. In what way was that helpful to the argument? That just seems snide to me. At least she has actually has a significant level of success with her music. Although I don’t think that’s relevant either. Call her out, as you did, for her unpleasant and ignorant views, not for how many tickets she sells.
Interesting that you cherry pick quotes claiming she said "It depends on what you call kids".
Note the full stop. Here is what she actually said.
"It depends on what you call kids. But, young people, 16, 17 year old young boys toting rifles. I've seen plenty of photos of that. Hamas recruits, boys that are not men yet. "
That is 100 percent accurate.
I don't need to ask why you lie about this. It's obvious.
So, just like most armies in the world? You think these youths don't feel the need to try to defend their families from the genocidal IDF? You don't think they have the right? What a sad, couched life you must lead.

Excellent work again Joel.

And that's what the ABC calls 'diversity'?

ISRAEL
your land built upon lies
the façade, fracturing, cracking
there is no virtue in your assumption of virtue
you are now the black in the black and white
your enemies taught you so well
none can now tell you apart

SOULLESS IN GAZA
hearts contracting
in self defense
against the onslaught
of the mindless, the fanatic
the insensate savagery
the nothing personal
for are they not animals
vermin to be destroyed?
hearts assaulted
beaten and burned
by the ravaging
of god’s own demons
only those beyond guilt
beyond conscience
beyond compassion
could do such evil
and claim virtue

Wouldn't it be good if the ABC reported on this

Presumably it’s because she is not only spectacularly unqualified as an expert opinion, but also totally culturally irrelevant.
