Albanese’s largesse to WA also assumes that the WA ALP will repeat its dizzying heights of 2021 and 2022. The WA State and Federal elections next year will likely see a swing back to the Liberals (albeit the WA Liberals aren’t coming back any time soon at the state level).
Federally, the ALP’s weakness in the state may show up again and then what is the point of all this pork barreling? As if there aren’t other states and communities across the continent that need that funding just as much.
What a farce that our public treasure is to be used to subsidise the war economy of the US and UK.
It’s not that Australia is any worse than the bulk of nations in embarrassing itself on the international stage. It’s just that we are especially bad at wasting eye-watering amounts of money in the process of giving away our sovereignty.
Naturally, a handful of the political elite will snout a fortune out of the AUKUS trough while selling us out and leaving us an even more poorly defended, regionally isolated and lacking in any strategic autonomy as a consequence. That Albanese’s Liberal-Lite imitation of the Coalition is so desperate to get in on the act and carry on like a bunch of arse-kissing flunkies simply lays bare the utter subservience to US strategic goals of both (or is that now just one) parties. Similarly, its unwillingness to even contemplate a tax and royalty regime on multinational (mostly US and UK owned) resource extracting industries that would help independently fund Australian interests demonstrates its serf mentality. A sub-imperial vassal state run by spineless blowhards keen to get the crumbs from the table.
The US and UK were delighted to have the convenience of our land on which to test their atomic and nuclear weapons less than 70 years ago. Little has changed, except for the fact that our political elite are getting a better cut this time around.
I'm eighty-five years of age andvlearned eighty years ago never to trust an American deal of any kind, why would we do so now with such a disingeneous plan that benefits the US and UK only and puts Australia in the red financially and sets us as a target. Remember it was the Hawaiin Island with an American naval base that got attacked, not the Ametican mainland, and that got America to finally join In with WWII. They were late joining WWI also, so we can be sure that if they pick a fight with China Australia will be one of its targets. Unfortunately for the US Russia and China are good friends and they could hit the US from both sides. So Australia has just paid out billions for another red herring.

The point of AUKUS is not to defend Australia, it’s to control it. In that respect, it’s like NATO.
