After decades of an ideological, Coalition-led hollowing-out of our treasured national broadcaster, the latest round of cuts leaves little substance left to prop up the crumbling facade.
The ABC used to be my go to channel , I watched it religiously. But with it's severe deviation to the right I cannot stand the blatant bias shown towards the LNP. Gone is any resemblance of balanced factual journalism. It has become Skynews 2.0 and is appalling. I now no longer watch the ABC at all.
This is so depressing yet many still claim the ABC is anti-conservative.
What would it cost to produce a documentary similar to The Final Quarter that documents for posterity the decline of this "independent institution", the influence of Murdoch on our national conversation and the complicit support provided by both major political parties?
The ABC has only been good for quality shows like Vera, even that is now into repeats. Its news has been gutted, regurgitating ASPI, AAP, etc talking points, using correspondents instead of its own reporters. How could we take it seriously when it features 'bags' Downer as an expert? The final nail for me was last week's anti-Russia hack job straight from the the USA. I turned on in the middle and turned off after the first lie - 15 seconds.
Howard started the hatchet job on OUR ABC and Morrison made sure of it by stacking the board, as he did with the other honest boards. Moving Ita into that job was a complete mistake, she's been a Murdoch talkin head since she first started out, so of coures she'd welcome more Murdoch shoeins.
Albanese has to get his act together and stop worrying about bad press from far right media. The public is aware of the takeover of the media, again started by Howard and fast tracked further by Morrispin. This country is heading so fast towards authoritarianism it scares the hell out of me.
We need the old ABC back and all the Murdochites gone.
Andrew Probyn surely has a strong case for unfair dismissal. His position did not become redundant. David Speers moved into the role.
I agree, Rod McKellar.

I hate what’s happened to the ABC. It is no longer my go to place for honesty.
I am torn between supporting the national broadcaster & realising it’s become rubbish PK is ok as far as I can make out since I rarely tune in now
Please fix it Albo
I watch it very selectively. I am still mourning the demise of 'Mad as Hell'.
Me too. Really miss it. Rob

Valid question Duncan. To which all I can add is, who is capable of producing such a documentary? And who would buy it?

I don’t understand the objection to Speers and PK. They are remarkably tough but fair interviewers to all sides of politics.
Amateurs and up themselves, PK yes you did Victim no I didn’t, feeble and farcical
She gets away with it for Barnaby and Angus but reduced to pathos when trying same with likes of Chalmers and Bandt.
